Met Office issues 25-hour thunderstorm warning with flooding possible

Sudden flooding and difficult driving conditions could be on the way for Berkshire after the Met Office issued a weather warning for thunderstorms. The yellow-level warning will be in place for 25 hours, from 4am on Sunday morning (October 23) until 5am on Monday.

The forecaster has said there could be road closures if spray and sudden flooding become an issue, and there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly. Most of the south and east of England is covered by the weather warning.

There is heavy rain forecast on Sunday morning between 6am and 9am. Cloudy conditions are expected for the next few hours before thunderstorms are expected between 6pm and 8pm.

Forecasters added that there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost. Drivers are being warned to plan ahead if they are travelling and to take extra care on the roads.

The Met Office yellow weather warning reads: "A band of heavy rain will move northwards through Sunday morning, followed by scattered heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon.

"Further heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible during Sunday evening and night, particularly across eastern parts of England, easing later. 10-20 mm of rain is likely in 1 to 3 hours in many areas, with 30 mm in a few places through the morning.
