During the week of Monday 14th November to Friday 20th November Police Officers, PCSO’s and staff across Windsor and Maidenhead supported Operation Sceptre, the national police operation to tackle knife crime. Engagement visits were conducted within the community to support and encourage young people to move away from violence and involvement in gang activity. Several educational visits to schools across the borough were also completed.
During the week, three arrests were made and a male was charged and remanded in custody for offences relating to knife crime. 7 community resolutions were issued for offences including possession of class A and B drugs and theft.
Our local Neighbourhood Teams were out and about and community engagement stands were set up in Vansittart Park, Maidenhead High Street and Tesco’s, Dedworth, to launch the new knife amnesty bins that have been placed at each of these locations. The bins have been provided as a safe and honest way to remove knives off the street. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their extremely positive response with 118 knives of various types being surrendered in just ten days.
In 2021 there was a change to the Offensive Weapons Act 2019, making it illegal to possess certain weapons in a private place, including in your home. We would encourage you to take the opportunity to dispose of any such items into the bins in a safe way.
