The Royal Borough could have an extra £30million a year in its budget were it not for council tax cuts under previous administrations, according to a senior officer.

The shocking figure emerged at Thursday’s people overview and scrutiny panel, where councillors were debating the draft budget which is set to be approved next month.

The Conservative-run council, which has been blue since 2007, cut council tax around a decade ago when councils were allowed to raise tax by one per cent.
