Work is now under way on a £150m housing development in Maidenhead. Once all stages are complete, 434 new homes will have been built on the site.

Plans for the St Cloud Way development have been in the works for several years and the development is considered a "major milestone" in the transformation of Maidenhead town centre. The site was previously occupied by Magnet Leisure Centre and a footbridge over St Cloud Way, both have since been demolished allowing the construction process to begin with Countryside Partnerships being the construction company behind the plans.

The construction process has been divided into multiple phases and it is expected to be fully completed in 2029. The first batch of private homes are expected to go on the market in 2024.

The first phase of development began on Thursday (March 16) with Andrew Johnson, council leader, breaking the ground. This phase will see the construction of 351 homes consisting of a houses, apartments and maisonettes - 33 of these will be for affordable rent with a further 54 for shared ownership.

The second phase will see the construction of a further 83 new private homes. These will be built on the site of the former bowling alley which has since closed.
