A “pollen bomb” is expected to hit the UK this weekend and those with hay fever are most at risk as warm, dry weather exacerbates pollen levels. The pollen count is predicted to reach a peak on Tuesday, June 13, although the Met Office is warning sufferers to prepare for weeks of hay fever, as we move into “grass season”.

With symptoms set to rise, Independent Prescribing Pharmacist, at LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor, Rumeet Patel, wants the public to be aware of some of the more unusual and lesser-known symptoms of hay fever:

“Even if you don’t have hay fever yourself, approximately 1 in 5 people in the UK experience this condition so you’re probably aware of the common symptoms.

“These include a runny, itchy or blocked nose, sneezing, itchy or watery red eyes, and an itchy throat. You may have just one or two of these symptoms or the whole list.

“Although less common, there are some more surprising symptoms of hay fever such as excessive sweating and loss of taste and smell.”
