Reading and area is set to be hit by a band of thunderstorms moving through Berkshire on Friday morning (August 18). The Met Office has issued a 6-hour yellow weather warning for the region, with torrential rain and storms possible.

Forecasters say that, between 6am and 12pm, heavy rain could cause disruption to travel due to flooding, while lightning strikes could be frequent in some areas. All of Berkshire is covered by the weather warning.

The Met Office information reads: "A line of thunderstorms are expected to develop during Friday morning and move gradually northeast before weakening into the afternoon. Whilst most places will only see a short period of heavy rain, a few places may see 30-40 mm of rain in less than 2 hours. In addition to heavy rain, some thunderstorms may produce frequent lightning."

According to the latest forecast, Reading will see the worst of the bad weather between 10am and 12pm, with a 90% of heavy rainfall. Some intermittent thunderstorms could also be expected.
