A new signal-controlled crossing on A308 Braywick Road and a permanent double mini-roundabout on Dedworth Road will be installed following a positive consultation, and a successful trial.
As part of the council’s commitment to invest over £50 million on highways over the next four years, the new crossing for pedestrians and cyclists on Braywick Road will be installed directly opposite the new leisure centre, providing access for those walking or cycling to the centre.
Consultation leaflets were delivered to all properties along Braywick Road and the adjoining roads, and of 69 responses, 39 were in favour of the crossing at the suggested location.
The new crossing will be in place prior to the opening of the leisure centre in September 2020.
Following a successful trial double mini-roundabout at the junction of Dedworth Road, Clarence Road, Hatch Lane and Parsonage Lane, the decision has been made to implement a permanent improvement.
The consultation saw 60% of the 373 respondents support the idea, and survey data showed reduced queuing on all arms of the junction, along with a reduction in the blocking of the carriageway at the ‘Tesco’ store.
Zebra crossings will also be installed alongside the permanent roundabouts, which are expected to be completed by mid-September this year.
Cllr Andrew Johnson, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “Both of these improvements will make a positive difference to their respective areas.
“The council is committed to investing in our highways and these two key areas of our borough will benefit following a successful consultation, and trial.
“The crossing will allow improved access to our fantastic new leisure centre, and the double mini-roundabout has already shown that it can improve queuing from all directions.”
