I have just heard on the passing of Stirling Moss over the BBC International. His well known skills on the racing track are well known, but with all his efforts he never managed to win the Championship.
I knew him locally at the many dances we visited at the Pinder Hall, The Maidenhead Rowing, and the old Town Hall in Maidenhead High Street.
He got his start in motor racing through his father, who was an old Brooklands driver. He bought Stirling a 500 cc model racer, which they took to the various meets in the UK in his sister Pat horse box, when she was not attending one of the many local horse shows. At that time the Moss family were living at at Long White Cloud in Bray. It was while race driving in his early years that he was caught speeding in Maidenhead. His remark to the magistrate was the he could not help it if he was a racing car driver. He was promptly find 10/-.
In later years his sister Pat took up International Rally Driving.

Another person who has died is Tim Brooke-Taylor who was one of the Goodies. Tim and his wife have lived in Cookham Dean for quite a while. It seems he died of coronavirus.
