3/7.  The victim received a call from a man called ‘Steve’, saying he worked for the victim’s bank.  He said that the bank had become aware of fraud at their branch.  Someone in the branch, was stealing money from customer’s accounts.  To protect them, he recommended the victim transfer all their savings, into a safe account.  Steve then gave him the sort code and account number, for the transfer.
The next day, the victim went to their branch and made the transfer.

Later Steve phoned again, to ask if the victim had any other money anywhere and that also, should be transferred to that safe account.

At that point, the victim became suspicious and phoned their bank.  The bank confirmed it was a scam and immediately phoned the police.

It is not yet certain, if the funds will be repaid by the bank, as the victim, willingly made the transfer !

We have had dozens of these scams perpetrated on local victims over the last few years, who have lost vast amounts of money.

If anyone you know gets a call like this, tell them immediately to phone the police.

Specific Advice – Courier Fraud
