FIRST: HOME SECURITY SURVEYS
We are about to re-start Home Security Surveys. Initially, these were made available to those who had been burgled and their immediate neighbours, but we realise they are not the only people at risk. PCSOs now while out on patrol, will put a letter through anyone’s door offering a survey, if they feel that resident could benefit from a survey. They may not walk down your road, - so - if you feel you would like to avail yourself, or perhaps a vulnerable neighbour (with their written consent) you can request one.
Below, is a group email inbox. Simply send an email to that group email inbox requesting a survey, with your full name, contact details and full address including postcode. The PCSO who covers your area will then make contact with you to make an appointment.
When attending your home, they will of course abide by full social distancing, wearing a mask, gloves and will bring appropriate hand sanitiser. They will, ask you to do likewise, for the protection of both of you.
ADVICE:
Preventing burglary in the Royal Borough, is a priority for us. Opportunist thieves, take advantage of open, or vulnerable doors and windows, keys left in insecure ‘hiding places’ and unlocked side gates.
To reduce burglaries, Thames Valley Police, work closely with our Community Safety Partners, including the local Authority, to keep homes safe.
Our advice:
Only leave windows and doors open if you are actually in that room. Particularly side / rear doors, while you are working in your garden or outside.
Look out for your neighbours’ houses, especially, when they are not at home.
If you see anything that you feel needs urgent police attendance (e.g. an unknown person in your neighbour’s back garden), phone 999 immediately.
If you see anything suspicious, which does not need an immediate response, phone Thames Valley Police, on the non-emergency number – 101.
If you have any information about a crime and do not want to speak to the Police personally, nor be identified, please call Crime Stoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

If you have any that might be of interest to the police, can you please make contact with us, quoting reference number given.

Hi Jeff,
I fielded two scam calls today, one at 08:00 from 'Amazon' on my landline, saying that they were going to renew my direct debit Prime account and inviting me to contact them.
The second at lunchtime, from 'HMRC' on my mobile, talking about some fraudulent activity on my account and asking me to speak to their adviser.

Thanks G. That is the way to deal with any of these calls. If it is important, the company will write to you - SO - SIMPLY REPLACE THE RECEIVER, PREFERABLY, WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL. These scammers are trained, to get personal information from you, usually without you realising.
EG - ‘Can I speak you your husband’ ? - ‘Sorry, he died a few years ago’. It sounds harmless, but means you possibly, now live alone !!
When you pick up the phone, you do not give your name or telephone number. If it is a scam call, the number will have been generated and rung by a computer. There will not have been any human involvement, so your giving your name and number helps them.
The only thing you say when you pick up a phone is - ‘HELLO’. If they start talking and you do no know who they are, or you have not asked that organisation to call you, simply replace the receiver - IT IS NOT RUDE - YOU DID NOT REQUEST THE CALL.
It is exactly the same as a cold caller at your front door:
I AM SORRY, I DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR.
NO CONVERSATION - IN WHICH YOU COULD BE PERSUADED !
