Coronavirus cases increase over the weekend

THIRTEEN new coronavirus cases were recorded in Reading and West Berkshire over the weekend.

Public Health England figures show 793 COVID-19 cases in Reading as of 26 July, up six from 23 July.

West Berkshire now has 490 cases — seven more than it did as of July 23.

Two more cases were recorded in South Oxfordshire over the same period, with another two in Wokingham.

The number of cases stayed the same in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead and Bracknell Forest also increased slightly.

Bracknell Forest has the least number of cases in Berkshire, while Reading has the most.

In terms of rate of infection, Reading borough also leads the way with 485.9 cases per 100,000 people.

By comparison, West Berkshire has an infection rate of 309.1.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.
