Handful of new coronavirus cases recorded in Berkshire overnight

A further seven cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Berkshire, according to new official figures released today (September 6).

Four out of six areas saw a rise in cases, bringing the number of positive tests to 3,786.

Reading, Slough and Bracknell Forest each saw two new positive tests recorded, while Wokingham had one.

No further deaths have been recorded at hospitals in the county.

A total of 347,152 people are confirmed to have had the virus since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 2,988 since yesterday.

The Government said a further two people had died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, making a new total of 41,551.

This is how the figures break down in terms of cases for each area of Berkshire:

Reading : 874 cases ( increase of two)
Slough : 784 cases ( increase of two)
Wokingham : 653 cases (increase of one)
West Berkshire : 542 cases (no change)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 520 cases (no change)
Bracknell Forest : 422 cases ( increase of two )

The total number of deaths at Berkshire NHS trusts remains at 574, as detailed below:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 365
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 190
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 20
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Labour’s call for more airport testing was not a “silver bullet”.

Mr Raab told BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show: “Let’s just be clear about this when we think about airports – there is no silver bullet in airports.

“The current data suggests that the success rate of positively identifying people with Covid with a test in the airport is less than 10%.”

Put to him that those numbers increase if passengers are then tested again seven days later, Mr Raab said: “There is no silver bullet in the airport alone and that’s why we have the quarantine.
