A further 29 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Berkshire, according to new official figures released today (September 11).

Five out of six areas saw a rise in cases, bringing the number of positive tests to 3,935.

Wokingham and Windsor and Maidenhead both saw nine new positive tests recorded, with Bracknell Forest recording eight new cases.

Dozens of pupils across the county are self-isolating and a dessert parlour has been forced to close after six people tested positive for the virus.

No further deaths have been recorded at hospitals in the county.

Across the UK, six new deaths have been confirmed meaning the total coronavirus related deaths now sits at 41,614.

So far across the UK, 361,677have tested positive for coronavirus with 3,539 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours.

This is how the figures break down in terms of cases for each area of Berkshire:

Reading : 906 cases ( increase of two)
Slough : 808 cases ( increase of one)
Wokingham : 670 cases ( increase of nine)
West Berkshire : 549 cases (no change)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 550 cases (increase of nine)
Bracknell Forest : 450 cases ( increase of eight )

The total number of deaths at Berkshire NHS trusts remains at 574, as detailed below:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 365
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 190
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 20

Meanwhile, Downing Street has defended the Test and Trace programme amid rising coronavirus cases.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “What Test and Trace is doing is testing hundreds of thousands of people a day and is helping to identify people who would otherwise inadvertently be spreading the virus and that is helping to control infection rates.”

Asked if the public should expect further restrictions, the spokesman said: “We keep all measures under review but it was on Wednesday that we set out the steps which we think are currently required in order to help us to bring the virus under control.”
