FIRST: ANOTHER ATTEMPTED COURIER FRAUD REPORTED TO ACTION FRAUD
A neighbour reports that her elderly neighbour, received a phone call at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, from someone who said they were the police at Slough Police Station. The man said they were investigating fraud at the resident’s bank - would they be prepared to help the police with their investigation ? If so, could they please go to the bank as soon as possible and withdraw their savings in cash. The police would send a courier to collect the cash, so that they could fingerprint it, to identify who in that branch, was committing the fraud.
The potential victim was suspicious and asked to speak to his supervisor. The phone was immediately handed to another man, who said he was the Police Superintendent. The resident was not convinced and said they would speak to their neighbour first. The alleged police officer, said that would be against the law and they were being silly ! The potential victim put the phone down and has not heard from anyone since.
These courier frauds have been happening for many years now and cost thousands of victims across the entire UK, their whole life savings, believing they were helping and working with the police.
They are though, still finding new victims, but hopefully the pool of potential victims, is shrinking, as we circulate the details to protect anyone who is possibly vulnerable and might fall for it. Tell and alert, everyone you know, to prepare them.

Preventing burglary in the Royal Borough, is a priority for us. Opportunist thieves, take advantage of open, or vulnerable doors and windows, keys left in insecure ‘hiding places’ and unlocked side gates.
To reduce burglaries, Thames Valley Police, work closely with our Community Safety Partners, including the local Authority, to keep homes safe.
Don’t leave your home in darkness, advertising the fact that there is no one at home. Use a segment timer and set it to turn on a light, or a talk radio station, as it starts to get dark. Try and vary the time each day, to make it look more natural. Also, consider purchasing a ‘fake TV’ with timer and dusk to dawn sensor.
Look out for your neighbours’ houses, especially, when they are not at home.
If you see anything that you feel needs urgent police attendance (e.g. an unknown person in your neighbour’s back garden), phone 999 immediately.
If you see anything suspicious, which does not need an immediate response, phone Thames Valley Police, on the non-emergency number – 101.

My partner received this very convincing scam e mail today, I’m sure it will catch many people out.
Giveaways are the low penalty (£25!), no vehicle details, or photos, no specific location, or time, no specifics of the alleged offence. Not to mention the ‘ unavailable at present’ phone number at the end.
She tried to forward the e mail to me but there is some kind of block applied that prevents that.
Hope this will help prevent someone from losing £25 for nothing.

This is an odd one. The email looks formal from the HM Courts & Tribunal. It goes on to say that his vehicle has been driven on a road in a charging area, without payment of the appropriate charge of £25 ! Where is that charging area ? ‘The United Kingdom’ ! He has 28 days to make the payment by clicking on the LINK - or face further charges !

She also asks, where is the best place to send these ? If you receive an email / text, you think is a scam, the first thing to do is copy and paste a few lines into Google. It will then immediately let you know if it is a known scam. Next - many of the organisations, banks, utilities involved, run their own scam reporting departments and are really grateful if you send the offending email to them. They then track them and close them down. The scammers of course start up again from another server, but it does delay them. After that - you can let me know, so that I warn everyone else.
This one was the old TV Licence scam.
The email states that the TV Licence will expire on the 22nd September and £11.90 is outstanding, because the bank has declined the last Direct Debit. To pay that amount and - update the bank details - click on the LINK.

I receive your neighbourhood alert and thought I would forward you the below email I received this morning as I’m not too sure who else to send it to.
The below email is to inform me that my vehicle tax has been cancelled to due non payment from my debit card …… this is not correct and my car is taxed, therefore this email is a scam.
Also if you click on the ‘GOV.UK.TAX’ or hover your mouse over the LINK or the sender - it's a hotmail A/c.
I would be very grateful if you could look into this or forward it on to someone who can.

The email explains that R’s last Road Tax payment failed and they have therefore generated a new invoice, but they need him to click on the LINK to complete details of his car and full bank details for a new standing order. IF HE DOESN’T RESPOND - the car will be clamped, crushed and enforcement action taken against him !!!
