A stretch of the M4 will be fully closed this weekend as smart motorway work continues.

The motorway will be closed in both directions between junctions 5 for Langley and 6 for Slough and Windsor.

The M4 road will be closed from 8pm on Friday, October 9 and is due to reopen by 6am on Monday, October 12.

This is so highways workers can undertake resurfacing work at the new Riding Court Road bridge near Datchet.

Workers will resurface a large section of the eastbound carriageway from junction 5 to the bridge which goes over the motorway. They will also be adding trenches across the carriageway to install drainage pipes and utilities.

The old Riding Court Road bridge was demolished in April.

It was one of the 11 old bridges that will all have been demolished and replaced once the smart motorway project is complete.

Diversion route

Drivers heading east towards London and Heathrow Airport will need to leave the M4 at junction 6.

Use the junction to get onto the A355 Tuns Lane. From there, follow signs for the A4 Bath Road - heading eastbound along the road.

You can then use the A4 following the signs for the M4 to rejoin the motorway at junction 5 for Langley.

Drivers heading west towards Reading, Berkshire, the rest of the county and the South West can use the same route in reverse.

Leave the M4 at junction 5, getting onto the A4 London Road.

Keep on using the A4 through Slough town centre, following signs for the M4.

At the main roundabout past Salt Hill Park, use the first left to get onto Tuns Lane, which will take you back onto the M4 at junction 6.

Both diversions will be clearly signed.
