FIRST: COURIER FRAUDS ARE STILL WITH US AND ACTIVE:
We have just received a notification of a Courier Fraud that took place in Norfolk. The beginning was exactly the same as those which took place here. A call from a police officer to say your cards have been cloned and they have 2 men in custody. Can you check you still have your bank cards - then dial 999 to confirm this call is genuine ? You do that, but the scammer has kept the line open and you are in fact talking to an accomplice. They - of course - because bank accounts are involved - need all your bank, personal and security details. A courier is then sent to collect your bank cards for replacement.
NEXT - they call back, because there is fraud at your branch. Counterfeit notes are being passed. Can you please go to your branch and withdraw all your savings in cash. Ask for the money to be put in paper envelopes, so that you will not have to touch the notes. They will send a courier to collect them. They will then check the noted for fingerprints, to see who the fraudster is !
They also ask if you have money elsewhere, or access to credit cards. If so, they ask you to go to a luxury store to buy gold / expensive watches.
I the case we have just received, the man in Norfolk was asked to take a taxi, to Hatton Garden in London, where they would be contacted. Once there he was asked to go to another place and as it was late, to book into a hotel - again, which they would refund. As his phone was running out of charge, they arranged for a courier to deliver a pay as you go phone.
By this time, the victim’s family were becoming concerned as they had no idea where he was and phoned the police. Eventually he was traced, alone and confused in London and brought home.
We need to spread the details of this horrible scam as widely as possible. It has been franchised across the whole of the UK as it is so lucrative. The scammers are defrauding thousands of people from their life savings and it is devastating to victims. Spread the word.
The real police will never contact you in this way or ask for your bank details. If you get a call from a Police Officer at Scotland Yard’ fraud squad to say they have 2 men in custody for cloning and using your credit / debit card.

The emails say that there a[PJ1] re discrepancies and inaccuracies in your database entries, in the car registration database. They say that they have sent several emails, to which you have not responded and this is now urgent.

We are suffering from opportunist thieves walking along roads in the early hours, trying car door handles. If they find a car left unlocked, they will open and search the interior - glove boxes door pockets and central console. If they find cash, sunglasses other valuable items, it acts as a ‘Crime Attractor’ and encourages more opportunist thieves who like easy pickings - they don’t even have to smash car windows / force doors.
CAN EVERYONE:-
Lock their cars when they park them anywhere - particularly, if you have to park in the road.
Leave nothing on display. That means NOTHING.
A supermarket plastic bag may contain something of value.
An item of clothing left strategically over a seat, may be there to cover something valuable.
Laptops, when left in cars are either hidden under the passenger seat, or in the back under the driver’s seat.
Opportunist thieves carry torches, or use the torch in their mobile phone to look into cars.
We have a specific problem in Ascot, with people loading their golf clubs in the back of their cars - perfectly visible - ready for an early start in the morning. Another Crime Attractor.
If you are awake, moving around in the early hours and see anyone walking along parked cars either trying car door handles or looking into cars with a torch - phone it through immediately to the ;police using 999. THAT IS A JUSTIFIABLE USE OF 999 AS YOU WILL BE REPORTING A CRIME IN PROGRESS’.
We, working with our partners - the RBWM Community Wardens - will be carrying out ‘CLEAR CAR CAMPAIGN’ sweeps through areas, which have been targeted. If they see anything left on display, which would attract an opportunist thief, they note down the car index, date, time and location and the owner of that car gets a letter from the police, informing them that this in unadvisable !!!

The premises is a semi-detached property on the A4 Bath Road. It is in the process of being extended and renovated. Overnight, offenders have entered the property and cut away and stolen all the electrical cables. They have also cut and stolen the cabling from extension leads and some power tools. The power tools were inexpensive.
