Three areas of Berkshire have higher infection rates than places that have been put under tougher Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions.

So far, all  areas of Berkshire have been put under Tier 1 restrictions, which means people must abide by the rule of six and entertainment venues have to stick to the 10pm curfew.

This is despite Windsor and Maidenhead having an infection rate of 123.5 per 100,000 people, according to the latest figures as of October 16.

It means that the borough has a higher infection rate than places in London and Essex which have been put into Tier 2.

People living in Tier 2 are not allowed to mix with other households both in their homes or in public places such as pubs, bars and restaurants.

Windsor and Maidenhead has a higher infection rate than 10 London boroughs, while Slough and Reading's rates are higher than one. They are:

Hammersmith and Fulham (121.0)
Haringey (120.2)
Newham (106.2)
Hounslow (106.1)
Hillingdon (104.6)
Barking and Dagenham (104.3)
Wandsworth (102.Cool
Tower Hamlets (101.9)
Havering (101.3)
Kingston upon Thames (98)
Bexley (65.6)

Windsor and Maidenhead and Slough also have higher infection rates than Tendring (98.3); Basildon (88.1); Braintree (43.9); (Chelmsford 72.9), among others in Essex.

Bassetlaw (115.Cool in Nottinghamshire is also lower than Windsor and Maidenhead's.

The spiralling infection rates in Windsor and Maidenhead have prompted the council to appeal to the Government to be placed in Tier 2.

Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough and Reading all have a higher infection rates than Bromley and Croydon, which both have rates of 73.7.

The three Berkshire areas also have higher infection rates than Chelmsford in Essex (72.9).

Essex went into Tier 2 after Essex County Council appealed to the Government to be put into the tier on Saturday, October 17.

It comes as Slough could also be put into a Tier 2 lockdown voluntarily.

Statistics on infection rates are being tracked by the Press Association, providing a rolling seven-day rate of infection for each area in England.

Here are the latest infection rates for every area in Berkshire

Windsor and Maidenhead - 123.5
Slough - 97.6
Reading  - 74.2
Wokingham - 61.4
Bracknell Forest - 56.3
West Berkshire - 42.9
