Coronavirus in Berkshire round-up: Thursday, November 12

More than 330 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Berkshire as the UK records the highest daily figure recorded since the start of the pandemic.

Public Health England has recorded 331 lab-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of 4pm on Thursday, November 12, bringing the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 10,798 according to Public Health England.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell - 22 cases, 1,159 total

Wokingham - 58 cases, 1,693 total

Reading - 43 cases, 2,052 total

West Berkshire - 39 cases, 1,350 total

Slough - 103 cases, 2,593 total

Windsor & Maidenhead - 66 cases, 1,951 total

The latest 7-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell - 111 per 100,000 people

Wokingham - 119.8 per 100,000 people

Reading - 138.5 per 100,000 people

West Berkshire - 108.6 per 100,000 people

Slough - 246.8 per 100,000 people

Windsor & Maidenhead - 163.1 per 100,000 people

There have now been 1,104,143 cases of Covid-19 across the UK – an increase of – an increase of 30,843 on the previous day.

The total number of deaths - those with Covid-19 listed on the death certificate - across the UK has now reached 61,648.

Locally, there were seven deaths recorded in the past 24 hours (one in West Berkshire, one in Slough, three in Windsor and Maidenhead and two in Wokingham), taking the total deaths across Berkshire to 804.

Leading doctors have said it is "vital that lessons are learned" from the pandemic as the UK's official coronavirus death toll exceeded 50,000.

The British Medical Association (BMA) said the figures were a "terrible indictment" of the Government's lack of preparation and organisation with regard to handling the virus.

Responding to the news, Dr Chaand Nagpaul, BMA council chairman, said: "This is a point that should never have been reached.
