All areas of Berkshire are recording rising coronavirus rates, with one severely concerned over the the "frightening" rates among young people.

The latest figures from Public Health England show big rises across the county.

Slough, where the number of cases in young people have been described as "frightening ", continues to have the highest rate.

The borough's rate is now 360.4 cases per 100,000 people, with the rate for those aged between 17 and 21 much higher at 446.9 as of Tuesday, November 17.

Next highest in Berkshire is in Windsor and Maidenhead, where the number is just below 200. The figure, which is based on testing up until Friday, November 13, shows the borough's rate as 194.2, which is a rise from 163.1 the previous week.

Reading's figure, having previously shown a drop, is rising once more. It has now reached 153.3, up from 144.6.

In neighbouring Wokingham the figures are now 151.4, up from 111.6. West Berkshire has been the lowest in Berkshire, but is now 127.5, up from 105.4. Bracknell Forest now has the lowest numbers, with 125.5, up from 118.3.

The national figures show 232 out of 315 areas in the country have seen rises, and just 20 places have a rate lower than 100.

In comparison, the rate in Hull, which has the highest number in the country, is 760.


After Hull, the Hartlepool has the second highest figures with a sharp rise from 407.8 to 596.8.

In the south east, the town of Thanet in Kent, has seen a jump from 290.3 to 520.

The latest figures for Berkshire

Windsor and Maidenhead 194.2 up from 163.1

West Berkshire 127.5  up from 105.4

Bracknell Forest 125.7 up from 118.3

Wokingham 151.4  up from 111.6
