Consultation on new Public Spaces Protection Orders to tackle anti-social behaviour
An eight-week consultation asking for feedback on introducing two new Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, has launched.
The PSPOs that the council are proposing to introduce will help to tackle dog fouling and dog control as well as cycling on the highway.
PSPOs were introduced to deal with anti-social behaviour in an area where the quality of life is suffering to those in the community.
Councillor David Cannon, lead member for public protection and parking, said: “The Royal Borough is a great place to live and work, but anti-social behaviour can be a blight on even the best communities.
“Residents tell us how frustrating it can be to see such behaviour and as a council we have a responsibility to do what we can to deter these types of behaviour.
“We hope that by proposing to introduce these two new Public Space Protection Orders they will provide our officers with the tools they need to tackle the unacceptable behaviours of a small minority and improve the lives of everyone in the borough.”
PSPOs, which were first introduced under the Anti-social Behaviour - Crime and Policing Act in 2014. A PSPO can both prohibit certain things or require specific things to be done within those areas.
The two PSPOs the council is proposing to introduce are:
An order to help tackle dog fouling and ineffective dog control
An order to tackle cycling on the highway in pedestrianised zones in King Street and the High Street, Maidenhead and Peascod Street, Windsor
The consultation will run for eight weeks, from Monday 14 December 2020 until midnight on Sunday 7 February 2021.
