Coronavirus in Berkshire round up

A TOTAL of more than 42,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Berkshire, according to the latest figures.

Slough has had the most total cases (11,252) throughout the pandemic, followed by Reading (8,088), and then Windsor and Maidenhead (6,646).

Over the past 24 hours, Public Health England has recorded 607 lab-confirmed cases in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough, and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of 4pm on Sunday, January 17, bringing the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 42,551.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell - 89 cases, 5,499 total
Wokingham - 64 cases, 6,463 total
Reading - 105 cases, 8,038 total
West Berkshire - 53 cases, 4,653 total
Slough - 218 cases, 11,252 total
Windsor and Maidenhead - 78 cases, 6,646 total

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell - 528 (Compared to 819.3 on January 9)
Wokingham - 402.6 (Compared to 602.5 on January 9)
Reading - 734.9 (Compared to 717.6 on January 9)
West Berkshire - 319.3 (Compared to 421 on January 9)
Slough - 1,029.2 (Compared to 1,174.3 on January 9)
Windsor and Maidenhead - 503.9.6 (Compared to 727.8 on January 9)

There have now been 3,395,959 cases of Covid-19 across the UK – as of Sunday, January 17, at 4pm. An increase of 38,598 in the past 24 hours.

Every adult in the UK will be offered a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine by September, Dominic Raab has pledged.

The Foreign Secretary said it would be "great" if the rollout could be faster but that the Government was working to the early autumn target.

He told Sky's Sophy Ridge on Sunday: "Our target is by September to have offered all the adult population a first dose. If we can do it faster than that, great, but that's the roadmap."

Mr Raab's pledge came amid dire warnings about the "extreme pressure" on the NHS - as it was revealed a coronavirus patient is admitted to hospital "every thirty seconds".

NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said: "Since Christmas Day we've seen another 15,000 increase in the in-patients in hospitals across England, that's the equivalent of filling 30 hospitals full of coronavirus patients.

"Staggeringly, every thirty seconds across England another patient is being admitted to hospital with coronavirus."

However, Sir Simon said the NHS in England is vaccinating at a rate of "140 jabs a minute" and will start testing 24/7 vaccinations in some hospitals in the next 10 days.

More than 3.5 million people in the UK have now received their first dose of a vaccine and some 324,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines were administered in the space of 24 hours.
