A stretch of the M4 will be closed in both directions as work continues on the smart motorway this weekend.

Drivers are advised the motorway will be closed between junction 5 for Langley and junction 6 for Slough/Windsor from Friday night through to Monday morning.

The motorway will shut for extensive resurfacing works at 8pm on Friday, January 29 and is expected to reopen by 6am on Monday, February 1.

Drivers are reminded only essential journeys are permitted due to the national lockdown. Those who need to use the M4 are warned to leave more time or find an alternative route if possible.

Highways England contractors will also be carrying out other essential activities during the closure as part of the £848 million upgrade to make the motorway four running lanes.
