Crime Update

NOT A BAD 48 HOURS – NO BURGLARIES TO REPORT.

BUT – we have had cars broken into and wallets stolen, containing bank cards ! Please remember our Clear Car Campaign:

Leave nothing on display. That does not mean, nothing valuable on display. A supermarket bag - could contain something valuable. A jacket left on a seat – could contain a wallet. A strategically placed covering – could hide a laptop.
I shouldn’t have to say it – but can everyone please lock their cars – even if parked behind gates.

You will see below - opportunist thieves walk around trying car door handles - if they find a car locked - they walk on looking for an easiet target.

As I have mentioned – you could have a window smashed, for a few loose coins left visible in the centre console, a pair of sunglasses on the dashboard. If not the cost of a replacement window – think about the time and disruption involved.

YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE !

FIRST: We have received reports of ‘Rogue Trading’.

We have received information about a White Ford Transit driving around RBWM, covered with signage on both sides and the back and a set of ladders on the top. We have multiple reports from Wraysbury in the last month, as well as previously in Maidenhead. Our grateful thanks to all those that phoned it through – that is exactly what we need, to protect vulnerable residents from being scammed out of their savings.

The white Ford Transit van contains three men, who are offering services such as gutter cleaning, driveway / patio cleaning, roof cleaning etc. in exchange for cash.

The phone numbers displayed on the van, are fake.

I AM SORRY, I DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR – THANK YOU.

Then politely, but firmly close and lock your front door.

CRIME

I have attached reference numbers to each crime report. If you live in the vicinity of any of the crimes mentioned and have CCTV or a video doorbell, can you please check the footage. If you have any that might be of interest to the police, can you please make contact with us, quoting reference number given.

21/4 Wednesday 2.06 a.m. Powney Road. The owner has video doorbell footage of a man walking onto the drive and trying to open the boot of his car. As it was locked, he looks inside the car and then tries the car door handles. As it was completely locked he walked off. The owner has heard that a car nearby had a window smashed. Ref. No: 432100166631 Do you live nearby ? Were you also targeted by this opportunist thief. If you have a video doorbell / CCTV can you check it please.

'Which?' provide a free Scam Alert Service, where you register your email address and they email regular scam updates. It's UK-specific so is totally relevant and appropriate to us.

And it is legit.

NEXT: HSBC Scam Texts:

Hi Jeff,

I received a text message supposedly from HSBC, informing me that a payment had been attempted from my account using a new unrecognised device and if this was not me, to click on the link.

I believed this was probably a scam, so telephoned HSBC to check my account and they confirmed my suspicions.

Today, I have received an email from HSBC, advising me that I must activate the new ‘HSBC Secure Key Security’ system. They invited me to connect to my online banking space - by clicking on the link. I believe this to also be a scam.

On both occasions, I didn’t click on the links - but it may be worth informing others of these scams.

I’ve just received a text purportedly from HSBC, but as I don’t have an account with them. ‘A payment was attempted from a new device……..’ I have deleted it.

I have presumed it’s a scam. However, it would have been so easy to click on the link !

Please could you put out a warning.

Hi Jeff,

I have just received a voicemail, purporting to be from HMRC.

If I “do not return the call, or have my solicitor call back, I should be prepared to face full legal consequences.”

I deleted it !
