SORRY – I HAVE YET ANOTHER SEXTORTION TO REPORT !
This time it is a young 12 year old girl, who was chatting someone – she thought was a young boy, on Snapchat. She assumed it was somebody that she may have met through friends in the past and she accepted the friend request.
Messages were exchanged by both over a few days and these appeared to be friendly in nature. The person then asked for some pictures of the young girl. She agreed and sent one of herself and then other more intimate images, but not including her face. The caller then asked for more intimate photos and when she refused, became threatening. At that point, the calls were terminated, the caller blocked and advice given.
This whole episode has been very stressful for the family.
AS I HAVE SAID SO OFTEN – PLEASE DO NOT SAY, WRITE, TEXT, FILM, VIDEO, PHOTOGRAPH, EMAIL ANYTHING ONLINE THAT YOU WOULD NOT BE HAPPY FOR YOUR PARENTS, FRIENDS, RELATIVES, NEIGHBOURS, WORK COLLEAGUES, YOUR BOSS OR ANYONE IN YOUR PERSONAL ADDRESS BOOK TO SEE !
Once you press send, it is totally out of your control and you have no idea where it could end up.

DURING THE DAY:
Can I please remind everyone about leaving windows open during the hot weather for ventilation – both during the day and particularly at night !
Windows can only be left open – if you are in that particular room, at the time. Please do not leave front windows open, if you are in a rear kitchen or doing gardening in a rear garden.
If you are working in a rear garden – a hedge trimmer / mower, can often be heard from the pavement. Opportunist thieves walk around, listening for this. If you have a side access with a rear door – most people don’t lock and unlock it, each time they go in and out and opportunist thieves know this.
They listen, then walk down the side and into the kitchen / utility room. They will search around quickly, looking for handbags and purses. They have a story already prepared, in case you return unexpectedly. You will walk in, find them and be totally surprised by a stranger standing in your kitchen – the initial response, is always the same ! ‘Who are you and what are you doing in my kitchen’ ! You will be totally confused.
They will immediately respond – ‘I was looking for John / Dave / Pete - doesn’t he live here’ ? You will say – 'NO - who is John / Dave / Pete’ ? They then respond – ‘Sorry, I must have got the wrong house’ and immediately leave. You will be left standing there, not knowing what is going on – until you find a handbag / items missing – then the penny drops.
AT NIGHT:
Please do not leave windows open on the ground floor – particularly at the front, on the ground floor – we will have an issue with bungalows ! If you have to leave a window open, make sure there are perhaps items on the window sill, which would be knocked over and be noisy, if anyone climbs / or reaches in !
The answer is a video doorbell – with an alert to your mobile phone to wake you up if anyone steps onto your property !

Our aim is to match your security, with your lifestyle. We do not want to turn your home into a fortress, if it is not necessary. Our PCSOs have some simple security devices, they can fit during a survey – Window Shock Alarms – they are stuck to windows with double sided tape and sound if the window is bashed or smashed, Door Wedge Alarms – these are placed behind doors. If a door is opened over them, a metal plate is depressed, setting off the alarm, Door Handle alarms – these hang from a door handle and contain a ‘trembler’ device. If the door is opened and the alarm moves – it sounds.
If a PCSO feels more security is needed, we have an agreement with your local NHW Association. They have additional items, which require fixing to the building. If you don’t have, or you can no longer reach a spyhole in your front door – They have recruited a local volunteer builder, who will fit a standard hotel style spyhole, at an appropriate height. They also have a large version, with a 2’’ ground glass screen on the inside, which projects an image of whoever is outside onto the screen inside– so it is much easier to see. They can have either - door bars (hotel style for strength) or door chains, fitted suitable for either wooden, or UVPC front doors. As a deterrent – they also have dummy CCTV cameras, they can fit outside.

Have now have the results for the Community SpeedWatch we carried out last week :
Maidenhead Road going into Cookham between Westwood Green and Lightlands Lane 8:15 a.m. – 8:50 a.m. we recorded 27 cars. 39mph was the highest recorded – 19 were 35mph and below and 8 were 36 – 39
Switchback Road North going into Cookham by Max’s memorial 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. 8 vehicles recorded – the highest speed was 48mph.
Sutton Road Towards Cookham before Mill Lane 9:55 a.m. – 10:20 a.m. - 11 vehicles recorded and highest was 39
Sutton Road away from Cookham before Mill Lane 10:25 a.m. – 10:35 a.m.7 vehicles highest 39
The vehicles that were recorded were all driving at10% above the speed limit of the road.
All the registered owners of the cars, will be receiving letters.
We also completed one on:
The Straight Mile Shurlock Row : 9 vehicles recorded all doing between 45 – 57mph over. (2 driving over 50 mph)
The Street Shurlock Row: 11 vehicles between 34 – 41 (1 of those over 40 mph)

Clean up after your dog - don’t risk a fine
As part of Love Parks Week, our community wardens are reminding all dog owners to clean up after their pets, or risk a £100 fixed penalty notice and a fine of up to £1,000 in court.
This is due to a new legal order, known as a Public Spaces Protection Order, which also allows authorised officers to instruct a dog-owner to put their pet on a lead if it is loose and causing harassment, alarm, or distress in a public space.
Over the coming weeks, our wardens are speaking with dog walkers in local parks to remind them to ‘bag it and bin it’, what the financial risks are if they don’t and how to report dog-foulers for investigation.
Royal Borough rough sleeper numbers hits zero
We are pleased to report that the number of verified rough sleepers in the Royal Borough is currently zero, compared to 40 at the end of 2019.
Our joint work with the NHS, local charities, and Thames Valley Police enables us to support vulnerable people off the streets and into stable accommodation as part of our borough-wide Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy.
To support people in making a lasting transition into supported accommodation and then independent living, we have a three-step pathway which is supported by our alternative giving scheme.

Our free holiday activities and food programme for children eligible for free schools meals will continue in the borough this summer.
The programme, Feed Ur Everyday Lives (FUEL), began in Easter this year and aims to provide additional support to vulnerable children in our borough.
It is delivered by Achieving for Children, which manages the council’s children’s services, and will run from Monday 2 August to Friday 27 August. Young people and families in receipt of benefits-related free schools meals will be able to access a regular source of free activity groups and nutritious meals.
The Government has also extended the Covid support fund for children eligible for free school meals, we are supplying food vouchers worth £80 per child.

Individuals or organisations in the Royal Borough can now apply to the East Berkshire Children and Young People Innovation Fund.
The fund, which is hosted by Frimley Health and Care, offers grants up to £5,000 for innovative community projects that support the health and wellbeing of young people across East Berkshire.
Individuals aged 16 and up can also apply to the fund on behalf of their school, community or voluntary group.
