SUNNINGHILL:
21/7 Wednesday 0.40 a.m. Park Drive. The owner, who was sleeping in their caravan in the rear garden, heard a noise and went to investigate. They disturbed 2 men trying to cut through the chains, securing the caravan. One male ran into a hedge and down the garden jumping over the fence. The other suspect, got into a car and drove away. After the suspect jumped over the fence, the car pulled up and aggrieved heard a car door slam. The car was a black people carrier. The police attended immediately and carried out an area search, but the car was not located. An hour later, the aggrieved again heard noises. The two suspects had returned and were using a tool, to remove a bolt, holding the lock to the tow hitch.. He again disturbed them and they made off in different directions. The police again attended immediately and carried out a second area search, but no-one was located. It may be a coincidence, but 4 hours later, there was a report of offenders breaking into a storage yard in Wraysbury, where a caravan is being stored. Ref. No: 43210323329 As caravans and other holiday vehicles are receiving premium prices at this time due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, they will be targeted for the near future. Please put additional security measures in place. Chain it down so that thieves will have to make a lot of noise cutting through the chain and fit a holding lock to the towing mechanism. If you can – make sure you have a video doorbell covering any vehicles on your drive with alerts to your mobile phone. FIRST: AN AMAZON DELIVERY SCAM FROM RACHEL:

I wanted to report a scam call I received this afternoon supposedly from ‘Amazon’, regarding an order I had supposedly made for a hopelessly out of date iPhone 7 for £300. I’ve been an Amazon customer for 22 years and not once, have they ever telephoned me about an order.
I didn’t listen to the full message, as clearly it wasn’t genuine, but I suspect it would have ended with a request for payment of some sort or for me to re-input my details.
The caller number shown was a local number, although this is presumably fake to encourage me to answer.

NEXT A STRANGE POTENTIAL SCAM FROM KEITH:
Hi Jeff,
On Tuesday I was travelling at 25 mph West along St Marks Road at 3.05pm. I heard a noise on my windscreen, it was a sharp noise like a stone, hitting it. I thought it strange, as there was no cars in front. I drove on, to pick my daughter up from school, thinking no more about it.
About half a mile later, there was a large "Jeep" type silver car behind me, which contained two men, flashing his lights and beeping his horn.
I pulled over. The passenger of the car got out and approached the passenger side of my car. I then got out of my car and he accused me of hitting his wing mirror, whilst his car was parked. He also accused me of not stopping, saying I must of heard a noise. I said I had heard a noise on my windscreen but I did not hit any car.
The man was flashing a website on his phone at me, saying an electric wing mirror is very expensive and costs £450. I looked at the back of my wing mirror and it did have a slight strange colour on the back, but could not understand why it was still in place and not shattered in bits if I had hit his car. Plus, the noise of impact would being a bang, nothing like the noise I had heard on the wind screen – when I was driving – not parked.
At this point, the driver of the car got out and held the driver’s side wing mirror, showing horizontal movement of an inch or two.
The car then drove off, but the passenger stayed with me, saying his colleague was just going to see his friend around the corner and would come back.
He said he was going to Manchester later that evening and this incident was very inconvenient. He said we should get into my car, to discuss it further.
I said I did not have £450 and that anyway, I would talk to my insurance company. He said it was OK to go through insurance, but he was worried about my losing my no claims bonus.
I gave him my mobile number, but he refused to give me his. He said his name was Joe and he would call me later. Joe was very nice during the conversation about the incident.
Unfortunately, I did not get a photo of the ‘claimed’ damaged to the other car or its registration number, as their car was driven away quite quickly and I was a bit dazed by the whole thing.
When, I got home, I was very suspicious and incident felt wrong. \so \i decided to do some checking and apprently, it appears to be very similar to a scam reported recently in North London and Bournemouth.
So far, Joe has not called me and I do not accept calls from unknown private numbers.
I just wanted to let you know, in case this helps in any way. It did feel like a well rehearsed scam.

Thanks Keith. Can everyone now be aware. If anything like this happens – it may all take place in a car park, where someone comes up to you and says you have damaged their car while parking. These are very common. Now you know – STOP – PAUSE – BREATHE – THINK – THEN DO WHAT YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO DO. TAKE PHOTOS OF THE MAN, THEIR CAR – INCLUDING INDEX – AND THE ALLEGED DAMAGE
Then swap Insurance information. If they are a scammer, the Insurance company will know and sort it all out for you. They never like paying out on fraudulent claims and if the damaged car’s index comes up too often - they will deny the claim !
