Another four people have died from coronavirus in Berkshire, according to the Government's official figures.

Today's statistics, published by Public Health England on August 25, found that two people had died in Slough within 28 days of catching coronavirus.

An additional death was also reported in Windsor and Maidenhead and another in Wokingham.

It means that there have now been 1,442 coronavirus-related deaths in Berkshire.

Today's update also found that there had been 396 new cases in the county in the last 24 hours.

Reading recorded another 94 cases of the virus, bringing the total number in the city to 16,183 since the start of the pandemic.

Slough recorded the second-highest number of cases after 76 positive tests were returned.

Wokingham had the fewest number of new cases, with 56.

The Government has said a further 149 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 132,003.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.


As of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 35,847 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to August 24 shows that of the 89,865,264 Covid jabs given in the UK, 47,792,552 were first doses, a rise of 55,410 on the previous day.

Here are the latest rolling seven-day coronavirus infection rates per 100,000 people in Berkshire for the week ending August 20:

Bracknell Forest: 296.4 (up from 286.7)
West Berkshire: 313.6 (up from 308.6)
Reading: 343.7 (up from 336.Cool
Slough: 300.8 (up from 296.Cool
Windsor and Maidenhead: 321.3 (no change)
Wokingham: 312.7 (down from 316.Cool

This is the latest breakdown of confirmed cases for each area of Berkshire since the start of the pandemic, plus the change in the last 24 hours (in brackets):

Reading: 16,183 (+94)
Slough: 19,217 (+76)
