FIRST: THE LOOK CLOSER CAMPAIGN
James Simmonds-Read, National Programme Manager at The Children’s Society’s Prevention programme, which runs the
Look Closer campaign, said: “Predators groom children with offers of cash, gifts, drugs and alcohol, friendship and status - then use terrifying threats and violence to exploit them to carry drugs in ‘county lines’ operations or for sexual or labour exploitation.
“Young people may not ask for help because they have been manipulated into thinking they are making a choice, or because they are too scared to speak out. We must not hold children responsible for preventing their own exploitation, but should instead work together as a society to prevent it from happening to them’’.
“That’s why our Look Closer Campaign highlights how important it is for people to look out for and report any signs a child is being exploited – be it in public spaces like train stations, parks, shopping centres and banks, or in online spaces like social media and gaming platforms.
“Doing so, isn’t just a matter for parents and professionals. Everyone from morning commuters and transport staff, to hotel and shop workers, can play a potentially vital role in helping children to escape a situation of horrific abuse and unimaginable trauma.
“Exploited children may not always appear vulnerable, or behave in the way we would expect victims to, so it’s vital, people look beyond the obvious and remember that trauma may cause young people to appear angry or aggressive’

12/10 Tuesday 2.50 a.m. Highfield Road. Attempt to steal a Mercedes from the driveway. This was captured on video doorbell footage. Two men drove up and parked outside house. 1 of them approached the front door and waved a device around, probably looking for a signal from keys inside the house. The other man tried to open car doors. The owner keeps the fobs in a signal blocking pouch, so they couldn't get a signal and the car was not taken. They were wearing face masks, so could not make out faces. Ref. No: 43210459646 This is a perfect example of a an attempted theft of a high value car, using a Relay device. Protecting the fob, by keeping it in a ‘Faraday’ cage protective pouch worked – and the car was not stolen. The message is clear. If you have a high value car with a keyless fob – you must protect the fob !
13/10 Wednesday 8.15 a.m. Farm, Dedworth Road. The owner attended today and found that someone had tried to enter 3 of the vans on site along with a car. An offender has tried to open two of the vans which were all locked. The third van has been physically broken into and the bar on the back has been broken but nothing stolen. The car was found with the doors open and again, nothing appears to have been taken.
12/10 Tuesday Midnight / 7 a.m. Dedworth Road. Red Range Rover stolen from the driveway. The owner still has the keys, but they were not kept in a Faraday cage !!! They put the theft on Facebook and members believed the car was parked up in Stanwell. The owners went and recovered the car.
12/10 Tuesday midnight / 4.40 a.m. Clewer Hill Road. Keyless, Range Rover Sport index LR ** OTY stolen from outside a house. The owner woke up and found the car gone. The car was tracked to the Stanwell area.

11/10 Monday 9.35 p.m. Courthouse Road. The owner has CCTV footage of a man walking onto their drive and trying the car doors. As they were both locked, he walks off to the road and tried the handle of a van parked there. None entered and nothing stolen. Ref. No: 43210460474 Just shows you – locking your car works !!!
