An area of Berkshire has the highest Covid-19 infection rate of any neighbourhood in the South East, figures have revealed.

According to the most recent official data, for the seven days up to October 9, Barkham & Woosehill in Wokingham has 1,273.6 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people - the steepest rate in the South East of England.

This was slightly above the location in second place, Newport East & Parkhurst East on the Isle of Wight, which had 1,273 infections for every 100,000 people.

It comes after the deaths of two more people within 28 days of them testing positive for Covid-19 were recorded in Berkshire.

The new deaths were reported in Slough, according to the latest official figures published on Thursday evening (October 14).

Meanwhile 675 more positive tests have been confirmed on Thursday - down on the 721 reported on Wednesday.

Wokingham - with 135 - had the biggest increase in the 24-hour recording period, followed by Reading with 120.
