Cases of Covid 19 continue to rise and has now reached a rate of 495.1 per 100,000, a level last seen at the beginning of this year.
Our current rate is also above both the South East and England averages. Ages 10 to 19 in the borough continue to be hit the hardest by far, but infections among ages 40 to 54 are also rising. We believe this may be due to household transmission, linked to school aged children.
Thankfully, however, local hospitalisations and deaths remain low, which show the vaccine is working. 80% of borough residents aged 18+ are now doubled vaccinated.

On Wednesday, we sent a letter to head teachers at all Borough schools, recommending they implement enhanced Covid 19 measures, over and above current government guidance, as soon as possible.
This is due to infection rates among school aged children now at the highest the Borough has seen, since the start of this pandemic.
The immediate health risks of Covid 19 to children and young people, and vaccinated school staff, may be low. But the current case rates and the number of outbreaks in our educational settings is impacting attendance causing disruption to children's education as well as the roll out of the Covid 19 vaccination programme in secondary schools.
We’ve strongly advised head teachers implement the following:
Use of face coverings in communal areas (unless exempt) for staff, children, and visitors in both primary and secondary schools
Reduce contact between and within year groups in school where possible
Enhanced LFD and PCR testing when either a child or member of staff has a household member testing positive, or when a child or member of staff is identified via Test and Trace as a close contact of a positive case

Covid grant for community groups
If you're a community group, voluntary or not-for-profit organisation in the Royal Borough, you could be eligible to get a grant to help tackle the prevalence of Covid in your area.
The council has a £50,000 funding pot to support hidden or hard to reach communities within the Royal Borough, to help boost uptake of the vaccination and regular testing. Our Eastern European communities are one such group we'd like to hear from as they're being disproportionately affected by Covid.
Applications are open for this one-off grant funding and you apply online. The closing date is Sunday 21 November.

NEXT: an update re keyless car thefts:
Hi Jeff,
Just picking up on your news about yet another theft of a keyless entry vehicle, I thought you might be interested to know that a year or so back, Ford partially tackled this problem, by making their key fobs go to sleep 40 seconds after it stops moving.
They have incorporated a motion sensor within the key fob to do this. So even if you forget to put it in a Faraday cage, you are protected, as no attempt to wirelessly contact it will work 40 seconds after you have put the key down indoors.
If you will pardon the pun, the key point here is that I believe they are offering to upgrade their earlier keyless fobs to add this feature. I think it is in the region of £100 or so for the upgrade.

SUNNINGHILL:
20/10 Wednesday 3.10 a.m. Upper Village Road. The owner has video footage of a person wearing a long coat and a hood (so face was concealed) walking onto their property. They had to navigate a gate code to gain access. They tried the doors of both cars on the drive and found the one unlocked. The searched that car and stole a Sat Nav. They also went around to the side of the house, but all doors were locked and couldn't gain access. They had to unbolt a fence on the other side to do this. Ref. No: 43210475923 This is a perfect reminder of several things. 1. All cars must be locked when parked up. 2. Opportunist thieves are looking for any opportunity when out and about committing crime. If a door had been unlocked – this would also have been a burglary ! 3. Car left unlocked in an area act as a crime attractor and news spreads quickly amongst our opportunist thieves. You do not want these people in your neighbourhood, walking along roads trying car door handles – that could turn into burglaries !

20/10 Wednesday 2.30 p.m. / 3.30 p.m. High Street. Two bikes propped up outside a coffee shop stolen. 1. An orange Carrera Vengeance bike. 2. A black Cannondale Kuik CX bike. Ref. No: 43210473893
21/10 Thursday 5 p.m. King Street. Locked up bike stolen and padlock cut off. The bike was alarmed and had a tracker fitted. The owner saw the thief who rode off on it with the very loud alarm sounding as he rode away. The Tracker showed it somewhere in Greenfields. The owner had only had the bike a few days.
