The aggrieved was leaving in her car, when a man came up and told her she had some damage on the back, caused by a shopping trolley and she should look at it, before leaving the car park. She got out and went round to the back of the car, leaving her car doors unlocked and her handbag on the passenger seat. While she was doing this, an accomplice opened the passenger door, searched her handbag and stole her credit and debit cards. Ref. No: 43220197444

This week members of the public will be encouraged to dispose of any unwanted, unlicensed or illegal firearms and ammunition during a national surrender taking place between 12 and 29 May.
There are a range of reasons why some people may have these types of firearms in their possession. They may be historical artefacts, an inheritance, or simply forgotten about in people’s homes. Others may be held legally, although no longer required. It is our job to make sure these weapons are disposed of safely to prevent them from falling into criminal hands.
Those with items to surrender should visit one of our front counters listed below. If individuals are unable to travel to a front counter, or have concerns about transporting a firearm, they should contact 101 to arrange collection.

Recently, I attended a meeting of the Union of Catholic Mothers and we discussed mobile phones – SMARTPHONES. I stressed the importance of moving with the times – and technology, which is now much simpler, than say 10 years ago.
Most scam calls can be avoided if you can create a ‘contact list’ of friends family and work colleagues. Any unidentified number – is then a possible scam caller. After paying the monthly contract fee – calls are free. People said they didn’t want to be on Facebook, but you can be on it, enter no details and take advantage of the free ‘Apps’ it provides. The biggest advantage is of course ‘Messenger’, which is similar to WhatsApp & Snapchat. Why are these Apps useful ? You can Face time / make video contact via the phone / laptop / tablet / computer with anyone in the world, for as long as you like – FREE OF CHARGE. Young people / grandchildren, do not communicate via letter or telephone. Make yourselves part of their lives and relevant, by video chatting to them. This can have a huge impact on loneliness. Agree with a friend to have a video session a couple times a week. You don’t have to sit, face to face and chat ! You can prop the phone up and perhaps watch the same TV programme together and chat through it – like ‘Gogglebox’ on the TV. You can join other people into the video call !!! make a regular night of it around any possible hobby you have. You can sit and knit together !
This raised the issue of – I don’t know how to use a ‘Smartphone’ if I got one. ‘I only use my phone to make occasional phone calls’.
This progressed to - what if we could provide learning sessions, with some young people ! They thought that would be a really good idea – as long as the youngsters didn’t move so fast, it was a waste of time and produce more confusion !!
I took this suggestion back to our Police Cadet leader – PCSO Mat Wingrove – what did he think ? He liked the idea and has now run a training evening with the cadets – not on how to use a Smartphone – they are all genius’ with that – but how to teach someone, who doesn’t know what an App is, the basics.
What is an App, what is a contact list, how to block unwanted calls, how to join WhatsApp and ‘face time someone’, where would they get an App and how to download it – very basic stuff to begin with, but we don’t want to make it so complicated / advanced we turn people off.
Joan and her group of Catholic Mothers at St. Joseph’s, will be the guinea pigs. If they think it works – would you like us to bring the Cadets to your group ? If so – email me and let me know.
LAST: ANOTHER SEXTORTION:
The aggrieved – a young man - had a video on his phone of himself committing a sex act. He received messages from an unknown person, threatening to post that video online and to all his family members, unless he transferred £2000. The aggrieved said he couldn't afford that and they lowered the price to £50 and finally to £30, which he paid, to the account number given.
They have since come back demanding more.
The aggrieved believes they must have hacked his phone, to get the video as he has never sent it to anyone and they have no other way of obtaining it.
They have sent the video to him, to prove they have it and that is not a scam, but a genuine threat. They have also visited his Facebook page and sent him a screenshot of all his family and contacts.
This case is linked, like many others, to the Ivory Coast in Africa.

6/5 Friday 9.30 p.m. Cannon Court Road. Burglary. The aggrieved went into the kitchen and noticed the warming drawer below the kitchen – which is soft touch, was open. He is adamant that this was not open when he first arrived home; when he went to close it, he noticed a scrap piece of paper inside. He picked it up and found it was a note written “HELLO I HAVE BEEN IN UR HOUSE”. He immediately left the house, called the police and waited outside. While he waited for the police, a person emerged from where he had been hidden behind his wife’s car and ran off towards St Peter’s Church.
A dog unit attended, tracked the male, but eventually lost the scent over some fences. No entry has been forced. They leave the back door unlocked whilst inside the address as they frequently to their dogs in and out of the garden. No items are thought to have been taken at this time. The owner is convinced this person has been inside the house before on several occasions ! Ref. No: 43220196264
