Tree felled on Lower Road, Cookham

An update from RWBM on the lime tree that was felled on Lower Rd yesterday:
“There have been signs of deterioration in the Lime tree over the past few years, with above average works arranged to remove dead branches.
Although the crown appears to be in reasonable condition, the tree is colonised by Kretzschmaria deusta. This fungus causes a soft-rot in the early stages and will make the wood brittle. A white-rot can develop in the advanced stages. Unfortunately, this decay can lead to catastrophic brittle failure with a ceramic-like fracture surface. There are usually no warning signs, which means there is now a high risk associated with this tree.
We intend to replace the tree this winter, subject to funding.”
