WELL A VERY RARE OCCURRENCE !

NO CRIME TO REPORT !

NO BURGLARIES

AND

NO CARS BROKEN INTO OR STOLEN !!

FIRST: A VERY STRANGE FRAUD / SCAM WE HAVE NOT SEEN BEFORE !

The Aggrieved’s son received an email into his school email from a scammer letting him know that all his and his mother’s, online accounts have all been hacked and had been monitored for several months.  The scammer had copied all their online traffic and to prove it was true – set out their online passwords.

The scammer was demanding $400 dollars in Bitcoin.  The victims were instructed not to respond to the email, but to simply pay the Bitcoin into a numbered wallet access link.

Another email arrived to say that the scammer had installed a Trojan into all the operating systems on their computers.  If the scammer sees any suspicious keystrokes, they can obliterate the computers or send anything inside to anyone they choose.

Probably the best way to deal with this is to reformat the devices and restore them to their default factory settings – which will mean they lose everything on the computer.  The best advice is to take all the devices to a computer repair shop and in the meantime, change all the passwords and turn off the devices.

NEXT  Please stay safe around water and remember the risks

Together with the Environment Agency and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, we are reminding everyone not to take unnecessary risks while trying to cool off, and to always make sure family and friends stay safe.

Rivers can contain sharp objects – please see the photos of what has been removed from the centre of the Thames under the middle of the bridges, where people throw things over - https://twitter.com/RBWM/status/1547567275229605895  These items are hidden just below the surface.   These items were removed from the Thames by the fire service. The shock of jumping into unexpectedly cold water can sadly be fatal, - https://twitter.com/RBWM/status/1546822857115590656  and strong currents or deep water can catch even capable swimmers off guard.

Rivers are great places to have fun, get close to nature and spend time with friends and family, but vigilance can save lives and water-related accidents can be avoided by knowing how to stay safe.

The key safety points are:
If you get into trouble in the water, remember Float to Live
Lean back and use your arms and legs to help you float, then get control of your breathing before calling for help or swimming to safety
If you see someone else in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112. If you are at the coast, ask for the coastguard, if you are inland, ask for the fire service.
Remember, drowning can occur very quickly even in shallow water and the key to keeping safe is to take all necessary precautions to avoid getting into difficulty in the first place.

To learn more, read the Environment Agency press release https://www.gov.uk/government/news/environment-agency-and-partners-warn-berkshire-river-users-to-stay-safe-in-heatwave  or see water safety advice on the fire service website  https://www.rbfrs.co.uk/your-safety/out-and-about/water-safety/
