Cookham Abbey archaeological excavation is moving along well. Loads of finds, and a particularly interesting development is an area of pathway which is potentially some sort of wharf.

This site is teeming with all sorts, metal finds, Roman tile and flooring pieces, pottery from Roman period onwards, Neolithic flint tools. This area has been occupied for millennia.

This was clearly an important site both in terms of understanding more about early monastic/Church communities and as a politically strategic estate within the Middle Thames area, considering our areas relative proximity to London.

The site also suggests a somewhat substantial Roman villa in close proximity due to the quantity of Roman building material remains including what look like roof and floor tiles as well as potential hypercaust shards.
A couple of general pictures, you can see some of the more exciting finds if you attend one of the open sessions.
