Met Office amber weather warning for extreme heat

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for "extreme heat" across Berkshire and surrounding areas. It is in force from midnight on Thursday, August 11 to 11.59pm on Sunday, August 14.

All of Berkshire is covered by the weather warning - including Reading, Windsor, Slough and Wokingham. It also covers neighbouring counties of the Thames Valley, East Midlands, London, South East of England and more.

Forecasters are warning that those "adverse health affects" are likely to be experienced by those vulnerable to extreme heat. They are also alerting the wider population who are likely to experience health effects too such as dehydration, sunburn or heat exhaustion.

Once again they warn that "some changes in working practices and daily routines likely to be required". People can expect there to be delays to road, rail and air as a result. It follows last month's heatwave when temperatures topped a whopping 40 degrees.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Temperatures will increase across much of the UK over the coming week. Temperatures will be highest across parts of England and Wales with these peaking on Friday and Saturday. In addition to high daytime maxima, temperatures overnight will remain very warm, especially in larger urban areas."
