Strike action affecting waste services tomorrow - what you need to know

We are expecting industrial action to go ahead in the Royal Borough from today - Wednesday 31 August - by waste collection operatives in the GMB union following its announcement and its subsequent discussions with waste contractor Serco. The strike period is not yet confirmed, and discussions continue between their employer Serco and the union.

We are currently intending to carry out black bin and food waste collections from tomorrow until Saturday 3 September. We had hoped to carry out recycling collections as normal over this period as well. However, due to fewer crews available than anticipated, we are currently expecting to carry out half of the recycling collections on each day the strike continues. The roads where we’re unable to collect recycling are published in advance on our website:

https://www.rbwm.gov.uk/strike-action-waste-and-recycling-crews

If your recycling is missed this week, we’re currently intending to collect this next week on your usual collection day if there are sufficient crews.

We will be temporarily suspending garden waste collections. Garden waste collections will be extended to cover the time when collections are suspended.

We will also be closing the Stafferton Way Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Maidenhead for the duration of the strike, in order to focus operatives on collections.

What you need to do

Please be aware that because of the Bank Holiday, collections will be a day later than usual and changes to collection days are available on our website
Please put out your black bins and food waste on your collection day and we will visit as soon as possible. Please check our website to see if the collection of your recycling is affected. If you’re due to receive a collection, please also ensure your recycling bin is out on your collection day. If we’re unable to collect your recycling this week, please do not put your bin out
Please ensure all your waste and recycling is contained within your bins, and do not to leave any household waste in, or next to, public litter bins or in our parks and other open spaces
Please be aware that some collections might be delayed, potentially to a later day, due to fewer crews available, so please be patient and continue to leave your bins out for collection.
If there are any whole roads where collections are missed these will be published on our website for each day the strike continues. We won’t be able to collect any individually missed bins.

We will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with contractor Serco, which as the employer is speaking with the union to seek a resolution as soon as practically possible.

NEXT – DO YOU RIDE A BIKE ?

‘Dr Bike’ events are designed, by our Windsor / Maidenhead Cycle Hubs, to keep your bike in a safe and reliable condition.

Our mechanics spend approximately 30 mins on each bike, carrying out a light service, replacing consumable parts where necessary and carrying out minor repairs.
When the work has been completed you’ll receive a report detailing all the work carried out on your bike and any “advisory” work that is beyond the scope of Dr Bike.
To help our qualified mechanics check as many bikes as possible, we ask that owners bring clean bikes to the event.
We check and adjust:
Brakes – calliper and cable adjustment, cable, and (if necessary) block replacement
Gears – indexing check and adjust and (if necessary) cable replacement
Chain – check for wear, lubricate if necessary
Tyres – puncture repair, inflated to recommended pressure (psi).
Plus – check nuts and bolts are secure; check headset and bottom bracket; check and replace missing bar plugs/cable end caps.

For more general information about the Cycle Hubs and the services and activities they offer, go to
https://cyclehub.org.uk/

Both Bike Hubs, are working closely with TVP, to property mark bikes with either Bike Register or Immobilise.  We encourage people to place their bike against a blank wall and take a photograph of it, to record the make, model and colour of the bike.  Then turn it upside down and photograph the Frame number, which is stamped into the metal between the pedals.  Then email the photos to yourself, in case the bike is ever stolen.

NEXT:  OUR COMMUNITY SAFETY TEAM VOLUNTEERS ARE OUT AND ABOUT RIGHT ACROSS RBWM, CARRYING OUT THE CLEAR CAR CAMPAIGN !

Our Community Safety Team Volunteers under the leadership of Roger Aisladie are working their way through Eton today, in their ‘Clear Car Campaign’.  They walk along roads and the local car parks, in full TVP Volunteer uniforms, looking into cars for ‘items left on display’.

If they see items, they look for the car driver, to engage in a conversation about making their car a target for opportunist thieves.  If they cannot locate the driver, they take down details of the car – make, model, index, location and what was left on display and they send a letter to the registered keeper, advising them that leaving items on display – even if it is only sunglasses on the dashboard and loose change in the centre console - acts as a crime attractor, drawing opportunist thieves to the area.  It is also likely to get their car windows smashed !
PLEASE - when you park your car, leave ‘nothing on display’.  That doesn’t mean ‘nothing of value’ – it means nothing.  People put laptops / handbags under the front seats / in the rear seat well.  They cover items with a blanket / jacket.  Please do not do that.  If you have items, they need to be in the boot, hidden by a parcel shelf.  They should not be put in the boot in full view, when parking in a car park – that will get your rear windscreen smashed !

OLDFIELD, BRAY & HOLYPORT:
A report from Sarah, a local resident:
A suspicious man was walking along Fifield road this morning at around 7.30 a.m..  He saw several dog walkers and turned around at Stewart Close, walked back along the Fifield road and disappeared past Coningsby Lane.  Sighted later at 10.30 am walking along the Maidenhead Road with a cyclist.  He handed over garden tools to cyclist, who then rode off towards Maidenhead.  He is described as white, swarthy complexion, slim build, medium height, wearing black jeans and black jacket, with a white band around the chest and arms. He was carrying a garden rake, pair of long handled secateurs and another tool. Possibly from someone’s garden shed ?  Can people in the area please check their sheds ??
29/8  Monday 2.20 p.m.  Holyport Road.  A Mercedes CLS index DE ** JAT, stolen from the drive.  The aggrieved has video doorbell footage of the theft.  4 men approached one of the cars on the drive, then went to the aggrieved’s car.  They attached a set of fake plates and just drove it away !  They drove off at 2.58 a.m., 8 minutes, after walking onto the drive.  They appear on the video, to be holding a device - presumably a Relay Booster !  A Relay Booster increases the signal from the keyless fob inside the house, which is not protected, by being kept safely in a Faraday Pouch.  Please remember - the spare key must also be protected. Faraday pouches, are available from major online retailers - often on special offer - 2 for under £10.  You know it makes sense.  £10 is not a lot, to protect your car !   Ref. No:  43220388194  If you want to see how it is done - watch the large number of videos on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_8i8bemhFw
