Bin collections are not affected this Easter
Household waste and recycling will now be collected on Bank Holiday dates (excluding Christmas and New Year) in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.
Residents' bins should be presented at the kerbside by 7am on the day as usual, even if a collection falls on a Bank Holiday date.
Easter weekend is coming up and there are three Bank Holidays in May. On all these dates, household waste, recycling, and food waste will be collected if it is a resident's usual collection day.
The cardboard boxes Easter eggs arrive in, as well as the plastic it sits in and the foil wrapping, can all be recycled by placing them in the correct packaging in the blue bins.
Naomi Markham, the environmental services manager, said: “Thanks to our residents we are making good strides in recycling rates.
“However, there is still more to do, and we would encourage everyone to continue to recycle through the holiday periods. Recycling as much as we can will minimise a collective impact on the environment.”
Along with recyclables which can go in the blue bin, like glass bottles and jars, metal food tins and plastic bottles, pots, and tubs, small electronic items can be placed in a bag on top of the blue bin and will be disposed of.
All the peelings and plate scrapings from entertaining on the Bank Holidays or Easter lunch, can all be put into any plastic bag and into the food waste bin. Tea bags and coffee grinds, but not coffee pods, as well as meat and fish bones, and eggs shells can all go in.
The general household waste bin is then for items that cannot easily be recycled including plastic film and bags, disposable nappies, food pouches and packaging, dirty or stained paper, and card among other items.
Textiles can also be left out for collection on a household waste day if placed on top of the bin in pink bags or with a bag with textiles clearly written on it.
