Just something worthy of note on cars with Keyless entry. Most BMWs and Alfa Romeos, can have the keyless entry element coded out by a main dealer disabling keyless entry completely. I believe other makes can also be coded out but from experience I know those two makes can.
For me it's a deal breaker if a car cannot have this function disabled. I can't see the benefit of doors unlocking automatically and dramatically increasing the chance of theft as opposed to the effort required to push a button on a key fob.
Worried owners of keyless entry cars may not know its possible to get it disabled but they should speak to their dealership. Usually requires a conversation with the service manager as sales staff generally don't know its possible.
Given you are losing the keyless functionality by keeping the key in a pouch removing the feature altogether safeguards the one time you don't have the key safely protected.

I was watching the doorbell video footage yesterday, from one of the attempts, supplied by the householders targeted. The footage is brilliant and the quality excellent – it was so clear !
I have asked Local CID, if I can share it with everyone. The house has a large parking area, directly onto the road and the video shows two young lads, just walking onto the driveway – even though the security lights are on. One walks to the side of the Mercedes, holding a mobile phone sized receiver. The other lad, has a large oval piece of wire aerial, which he holds over his head, arms outstretched. He walks around the front of the house from side to side, under the direction of the lad with the receiver, trying to intercept the signal. They don’t manage to get one, so at a signal from the lad with the receiver, they both just walk off – as we know now, to their second and third targets !
It is absolutely blatant and in full view of the road and houses opposite !
The information from Jeff may help others. I have asked him, if the keyless is disabled, are the car owners issued with a normal fob to open the car, or must they use the key ? With fob entry cars, if you use the key, it usually doesn’t set the immobiliser and alarm.
If you have keyless - this is a reminder - that fobs must not be kept near front doors - at least 30 feet from the road / front door and must be kept in a metal container, made for the purpose ! If you have a performance car, these lads are out there stealing them to order !

MAIDENHEAD CENTRAL:
maidenheadcentralnhpt@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk17/4 - 18/4 Wednesday 11 p.m. / Thursday 5 a.m. Keble Road. Witnesses in Slough saw a car driving erratically finally crashing. A man was seen to run off carrying bags. The police attended immediately and traced the registered owner of the car and visited them at home. When they arrived at the property, the person there thought the car was on the drive. On examination it was gone and they established the property had been burgled.. Entry via rear patio door, which had been left unlocked. They checked a box of keys kept by the front door and found the car keys missing, along with the car ! There had also been an untidy search of the ground floor.
