23/3/2018 - 11/6/2019 The aggrieved was looking for an investment and on the advice of a company that made contact with him, he invested in Bitcoin. The company suggested he start small, so he invested £120,000. Over time, the company informed him his investment, had increased in value to 340,000 Euros ! During this time the aggrieved found out that the investment company was not registered in the UK or covered by the FSA, but they said they were in that process and all would be fine, by the end of 2018. In September 2018, the value of Bitcoin crashed and the company contacted the aggrieved to say it was now only worth 34,000 Euros and he should increase his investment. He didn’t send any more money, but sked for advice from his bank. They researched the company and advised that in their opinion, the company was a scam. It was registered in Estonia and was still not registered with the FSA. They suggested he have his investment returned. He has tried to do that, but cannot obtain a response from the company. He believes he has been scammed out of his investment.

This alert is a reminder for our members of the community, about how to get involved in two, of our key Safeguarding issues that we all play a part in, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Background
Two of the key issues facing our community, are a rise in Knife Crime and a rise, in County Drug Line exploitation. These issues, mainly affect our young adults, but always, have a knock on affect in the wider society. Over the past year (January to January), we have seen a significant rise in Knife Crime within the Thames Valley as a whole, seeing the third highest rise in Knife Crime, out of the 43 Policing Areas in England and Wales.
A significant rise in ‘County Line Drug Exploitation’ has also been witnessed, although this, is more difficult to quantify. We have seen exploitation of children as young as 12. Dealers are also taking advantage, of Vulnerable adults with significant learning difficulties. It must be noted that with this rise, we have also had a significant increase in positive outcomes, from our investigations.
In the last 4 months alone, your Problem Solving Team and Area CID, have secured towards more than 36 years of prison sentences, for County Drug Lines.
Definitions
Knife Crime – Any incident where a knife is involved. This can include possessing a knife, and violence or sexual offences, where knives are involved.
County Drug Line – Where an Organised Crime Group from an Urban area, deals drugs to a more rural area, exploiting vulnerable adults and children. This is often enforced through violence, sexual offences and knife crime.
Where you come in
Thames Valley Police, has a proud historic relationship of working with the community and partner agencies, to combat serious crime and disorder. We and RBWM’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), already get significant quantities of intelligence from the community, which is crucial to structuring our response. We do get more intelligence that we can action, with around 78 pieces of intelligence about all crimes, in the past 7 days alone. However, every piece of intel, adds up to create a wider picture and focus our limited resources, on those areas that are of most concern in the community.
If you, or anyone you know, are aware of any child or adult that might either be carrying knives, at risk of harm from knives, or involved in any way in County Drug Line supply – please let us know, via our website, or 101 or CrimeStoppers (who guarantee total anonymity). Our website reporting form, is the quickest way to report. We would just remind submitters, to include as much information as they can, to prevent us having to come back to you.
Your Intelligence, could be the missing piece needed to safeguard an individual and could make a significant difference in the wider community.

NEXT: I am back from a meeting of The One Borough Group. This is a really valuable meeting attended by local council leads, local councillors and all the agencies, which provide services to residents in RBWM
There are presentations by care providers, youth engagement, adult mental Health teams, faith groups, you name it - they are there sharing best practice and the services they provide.
I mentioned our two projects managed in partnership with Give and take care. The sewing re-purposing course starting on September 9th at the east berks College and the Growing Buddies course re vegetable and plant growing course, starting next February. Both are ‘Intergenerational’ projects, putting together both young and ‘older’ people, so that both can benefit from each other’s experiences.
I asked for volunteer sewers / tailors / seamstresses to join us on this course and so far, 2 volunteers came forward. We need more. As this course will be intensive and detailed - and machinery is involved - we need a high ratio of volunteers to students - so I need 6 more please !
