As so many bikes are being stolen across the area, can we please ask everyone who owns a bike to please take a photo of it ?  Just prop it up against a wall and take a photo, then email it to yourself.  If it is ever stolen, we have some means of identifying it - particularly if it has distinctive features.  What would be even more helpful, is if you turn it over and take a photo of the frame number ?  It is underneath, stamped into the chrome flange, between the pedals.  It is not too much to ask that you take a few photographs.  We did manage to return one bike this week recovered from an offender, because the real owner had done exactly this, so could supply us with a full description - colour, make and model and - they even had the frame number.

If our staff see someone out and about - that they know - on a bike they think is not quite appropriate for them, they do a stop check on their ‘Reasonable Suspicion’ that the bike may be stolen.  They then do a check on the bike in the police computers, by colour, make, model and frame number.  If it comes back as reported stolen ……. The offender is caught bang to rights.  A really positive result, not only for the aggrieved, but also the community - if we can have the offender put away for theft - but also from the police officer / PCSO who did the stop check.  They can go home feeling that they have done a really good days work.

PLEASE - HELP US TO HELP YOU

PINKNEYS GREEN & FURZE PLATT:
27/6  Thursday 11.05 a.m.  Brompton Drive.  The owner went to their garage to remove a lawnmower.  When they went back they found a van parked across her driveway and two men looking in her garage.  It was a plain red Toyota Van.  Descriptions 1.  White, mid 30s, medium build, dark hair, very short up the sides, wearing a dark T shirt, dark jogging bottoms. 2.  White, early 40s, bit stockier than the other man, very short hair, wearing dark clothing.  Both men were wearing IDs and Lanyards.  They had been seen looking at other garages.  They immediately climbed into the van and drove off.  Please be aware that we hear this all the time - ‘I was only gone for 5 minutes’ !  ‘I had never left that window open before and that was the only time I had done so’ !  That is how it happens, the opportunist offenders are out there 24/7 looking for someone who has made a mistake.  Here the owner had closed the garage door after taking the mower, but the offenders were obviously there at that exact moment and saw that she hadn’t locked it, so took that opportunity to open the door and look inside.  Can everyone be on their guards and not make any mistakes - it only takes one !!!
