AS WE ARE NO IN OUR WINTER BURGLARY CAMPAIGN - I HAVE ATTACHED ONCE AGAIN MY HANDOUT, WITH A LOT OF CRIME PREVENTION ADVICE, TO PREVENT YOU BEING TARGETED.
So:
The number one defence - a burglar alarm (or while you wait to have one fitted, or think about it - a dummy box). We only have ‘opportunist thieves’, who know nothing about security systems and therefore, avoid them.
Security lights - think about replacing one, with a 'Guard Cam' - a security light, containing a high resolution camera. These are brilliant at night, as they record when the beam is broken and the floodlight goes on ! Normal CCTV, turns over to grainy black and white, when it is dark. Like video doorbells, the footage can be sent directly to your mobile phone.
Video doorbells - there are versions that do not require WiFi, but they do need hard wiring, to a TV / monitor
Fake TV - available from online shopping stores
Timers, on lights and a talk radio station, in case your house is in darkness, before you get home from work, or are out.
Good perimeter security
Two shiny well maintained locks on the front door and any side access. One rim- latch (Yale / Chubb type lock) at shoulder height and a 5 lever mortice lock (the one you lock with a key) at hip / waist height. This prevents your door from being forced.
Think about setting up, or joining, a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. See contact details at the bottom of this email. They will be really helpful. NHW Stickers and street signs, are a real deterrent. Our Opportunist offenders, don’t like NH Watch schemes, as their members are usually observant and likely to call the police, if they see anyone in their road, acting suspiciously - together, we are stronger - and it really helps to bind communities, if we watch out for eachother.

26/11 - 27/11 Tuesday 4 p.m. / Wednesday 7.35 a.m. Cranbrook Drive. A grey, BMW 630i, index RV ** DSE, keyless car stolen from the drive way. No evidence of any damage to the car, left behind. Keyless car fobs, must be protected at all times. Please keep them in one of those credit card protected carry cases, when not in use. At home, they must be at least 30 feet from the pavement outside / front door. Thieves have devices, they can use outside your home, to locate and copy the signal, but the range is limited. They can then transfer the code, to an electronic device, which the car believes is the key fob and unlocks the car. The device is then connected to the car, via the diagnostic scart socket, under the steering wheel. The car starts and can be driven away. We have video doorbell footage of thieves doing this. They have two devices. One holds up a circular piece of wire, that acts as a an aerial, which picks up the signal. The other has the device which copies the signal and fools the car. It is very simple to prevent this, by placing the key fob in a protective metal container. A fridge, is just as good !!!
