When one had to beat the ten to nine trains passing at Cookham station, then having to scramble with ones bike over the foot bridge and pedal like mad up the hill before the bell went at school and not be caught by "The Gaffa!" George Henry Wood.
What triggered these memories was looking over an old TV series "Oh Doctor Beaching! Now I see they are getting down to electrifying the old branch line, or what is left of it!
Still Cookham has a place still with the old Great Western Railway buffs in a 82 year old Manor Class steam engine "Cookham Manor" Which is now on static display at Didcot.
