The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Berkshire has risen again, according to the latest figures from Public Health England released on Tuesday (March 31).

There are now 239 cases across the county - up from 234 recorded on Sunday (March 29).

There are currently 73 positive cases of the virus in Slough, 29 in Reading, 21 in Bracknell, 24 in Wokingham, 49 in Windsor and Maidenhead and 43 in west Berkshire.

As of 9am on Tuesday (March 31), the number of people tested has now risen to 143,186 and a total of 25,150 people have tested positive for COVID-19.

Men aged 85 and over have been the most likely to die from coronavirus, according to new official figures.

The Office for National Statistics has begun publishing figures on the number of deaths registered where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

Previously published figures have covered deaths in hospitals where someone has tested positive for the virus, which means deaths outside of hospitals weren’t included.

Of the deaths in England and Wales registered in the week ending March 20, 103 mentioned novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which is 1 per cent of all deaths.

There were also five deaths registered in the preceding week.
