Anyone walkingdogs on Cockmarsh, cattle are back out there.

Widbrook and Odney Commons could do with a few, as in years gone by. Bring back the full time post as "Hayward." His job was to check weekly on the health of the stock grassing and inform the owners as to the state. He also kept nettles and thistles cut. The last person to hold that position was Arthur Jakes JP, who lived at 25 Australia Ave, in Maidenhead. Grassing on Widbrook was from the 1st Monday in May till the end of October. Monies collected
for the cattle and horses went to cover the Haywards cost and the balance to the Parish Apprentices Fund for tools required in training.
With the non existence of the Hayward the condition of the Common land has fallen into sheer neglect.
