I was amazed that Sue and Dave had figured out a social distancing way of serving beer and wine from their outdoor bar, with all seating removed, although last weekend you could still sit on the decking or go into the playground.

Unfortunately as I suspected this drew the ire of the Men In Grey who have slapped a Prohibition Order on them, meaning that the actual pub garden is now off limits - I'm not quite sure if the toilet is still open, either. It was kept open during lockdown as a social service, but it's part of the premises, so who knows? The Official Mind moves in interesting ways....

However, Cockmarsh being a rather independent-spirited kind of place - they are still serving takeaway drinks as long as you promptly vacate the premises and go down to the water with them or into the back field.

I don't know, though, how long this arrangement might last. Think of Hodges in Dad's Army or the guy from the city authorities who forces the ghostbusters to turn off the containment shield. People like that don't like being crossed, so the next step normally is a midnight raid during which a packet of Mini Cheddars one day over its sell-by date is 'found'.

Anyway, fingers crossed. It's great to see some local initiative, so give 'em your support, remembering to avoid blocking the towpath, and let's see if they're still there next week....

How on earth did the Men in Grey find out in the first place? Is there a whisteblower pretending to be a customer there?
