Nearly 40 cases recorded across Berkshire in 24 hours

Nearly 40 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Berkshire, according to new official figures released today (September 12).

Out of those cases, more than half were recorded in Windsor and Maidenhead - with 22 new cases.

All six areas saw a rise in cases, bringing the number of positive tests in 24 hours to 39, with the total now 3,974.

Slough and Bracknell Forest - both seeing a big increase recently - have once again recorded the next biggest numbers of five each.

No further deaths have been recorded at hospitals in the county.

Across the UK, nine new deaths have been confirmed meaning the total coronavirus related deaths now sits at 41,623 .

So far across the UK, 365,174 have tested positive for coronavirus with 3,497 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours.

This is how the figures break down in terms of cases for each area of Berkshire:

Reading : 908 cases ( increase of two)
Slough : 813 cases ( increase of five)
Wokingham : 672 cases ( increase of two)
West Berkshire : 552 cases ( increase of three )
Windsor and Maidenhead: 572 cases (increase of 22)
Bracknell Forest : 455 cases ( increase of five )

The total number of deaths at Berkshire NHS trusts remains at 574, as detailed below:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 365
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 190
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 20

People have been warned against having a “party weekend” as a former chief scientific adviser said the UK is “on the edge of losing control” of coronavirus.

The public has been urged to act “in tune” with Covid-19 guidelines before the “rule of six” restrictions come into force on Monday.

The call came as former chief scientific adviser and member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) Sir Mark Walport said the only way to stop the virus spreading is to reduce the number of people we all come into contact with, adding that there is an “extremely strong argument” that home working should continue.
