FIRST: CASE OF A POSSIBLE BOGUS BUILDER
A family member went to visit their grandparents and were surprised to see workmen on the roof. They asked the homeowners what had happened. They responded that the builders had cold called and said they needed to have repairs made to the roof. They had said OK and were taken to the bank to take out some cash for materials. The builders had now been asked for a large sum of cash, to complete the work. The visitor asked the men to stop work and called the police, who attended immediately and made the builders leave. The homeowners are vulnerable and were upset, because they said the builders had been so helpful and they would not have known the work needed to be done, if they hadn’t called. It appears no work needed to be done and fortunately, no more money had been handed over.

I am sorry, I do not buy goods and services at the door. Never deal with anyone who cold calls, saying you need to have building work done.
NEXT: YET ANOTHER SEXTORTION CASE:
The victim was contacted and chatting to what he believed to be a woman in an online chat room. The conversations became intimate and the victim sent her an ‘intimate’ video of himself. Immediately the victim was contacted by a man who demanded £500, or he would post the video across all the victim’s social media. He sent the money. He was contacted again and the threats were repeated, so he sent a further £500. Enquiries through the bank established the money went to an account in the Philippines. Since then, the victim has received further threats and demands, but refuses to send any more money.
Safeguarding advice has been provided to the victim and he has been advised to increase the security settings on his social media accounts, stop engaging with the person online and not to send any more money. He has also been given the details of ‘Victim's First’ and ‘Scam Survivors’, for support.

NEXT: We have been receiving a lot of enquires re the use of E-Scooters on the roads and in our town centres. This is the definitive advice re their use:
The use of privately owned electric scooters are only permitted on private land or where the land owner has given permission.
This is the result of a question from a NHW member - If E-Scooters have to be taxed insured etc. How do I do that for my son’s E-Scooter, to make sure he is within the law.
It’s important to remember that privately owned e-scooters riders are not required to have a driver’s license or provisional license because they cannot be used on a public road. You do not need to register an electric scooter and it is tax exempt because it cannot be used on public roads. Insurance is not required also because it cannot be used on a public road.
It is also an offence to ride an e-scooter on the pavement, footpath, cycle paths or any pedestrian area.
We will be issuing Section 59 (Police Reform Act 2002) warnings to any users of electric scooters when not on private land. If you are stopped again, after receiving a Section 59 warning, your electric scooter will be seized (Section 60 Police Reform Act 2002) and you will receive either a fine or be required to attend court.
SINCE THE ABOVE - THE FOLLOWING GUIDANCE ARRIVED TODAY FROM POLICE HQ:
If you own an e-scooter, you cannot legally use this on the road. You can only ride this on private land. This could be a garden or a field, with the landowner's permission.
Private e-scooters cannot be used on public roads, redways or pavements as they need to be insured, taxed and registered with the DVLA -
just like cars. BUT, you can't register, tax or insure an e-scooter.
If you ride your own e-scooter on public land, you could get a £300 fine, 6 points on your driving licence and the scooter can be seized.
Even if you don't have a driving licence, points can be added once you have passed your test. New drivers can only receive 6 points on their licence in the first 2 years after passing so you could lose your driving licence.
If you are renting an e-scooter from an approved scheme, you can legally use this on the road.
In July, rental e-scooters were made legal on roads in England to allow for a 12-month trial while the government review the legislation.

They saw three youths running and jumping from car to car parked in the road causing a lot of damage. Another 2 or 3 youths were damaging wing mirrors. Once they realised they had been seen, the youths started to run away. The police were called and attended immediately and located one youth, still laying on the roof of one of the cars.
