New coronavirus cases recorded in every area of Berkshire in last 24 hours

A further 20 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Berkshire - with Windsor and Maidenhead seeing the biggest increase, new figures show. (September 16).

Every area of Berkshire saw a rise in cases, bringing the total to 4,050.

There were nine new cases in Windsor and Maidenhead, with Slough and Wokingham both seeing three new infections.

No new deaths were recorded at hospital trusts across Berkshire.

Across the UK, 20 new deaths have been confirmed. meaning the total of coronavirus related deaths now sits at 41,684 .

Public Health England says 378,219 people have tested positive for coronavirus, with 3,991 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours.

Reading : 914 cases ( increase of two )
Slough : 832 cases ( increase of three )
Wokingham : 678 cases ( increase of three )
West Berkshire : 555 cases ( increase of two )
Windsor and Maidenhead: 607 cases (increase of nine)
Bracknell Forest : 464 cases ( increase of one )

Meanwhile Boris Johnson has defended the troubled Covid-19 testing system amid mounting fears of a fresh coronavirus crisis in care homes.

The Prime Minister faced MPs as the Government was drawing up a list setting out who will be at the front of the queue for coronavirus tests after a "colossal spike" in demand.

Care home staff and residents are likely to be near the top of the list as Mr Johnson acknowledged ministers were concerned about the rate of infection.

He said a new "action plan" this week would involve tougher rules on the movement of workers between care homes.
