One part of Berkshire's coronavirus infection rate is fast approaching 200 ahead of lockdown, but another has seen a large drop.

In the week leading to Thursday, October 29, the rate in Slough was recorded as 193.9 cases per 100,000 people, which remains the highest in Berkshire.


However, there is better news for people in Wokingham where the coronavirus infection rate has fallen from 98.2 to 83, with the number of new cases falling from 168 to 142.


Another hotspot, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, has also seen a small drop from 138.7 to 135.4 - although it has consistently remained in the 100-130 mark since October 12.

Other parts of the county are seeing rises, with Reading's latest rate at 127.3, up from 109.4.

Bracknell Forest is also heading towards the 100 mark, with 96.3, up from 91.4. The lowest rate remains in West Berkshire with 91.5, up from 78.9

Nationally, the highest rate remains in Blackburn with Darwen with a rate of 725.5, which is down from 768.9 in the days leading to Thursday, October 22.

Areas with big jumps include South Staffordshire, up from 289.9 to 446.5 and 502 new cases, and Hull, 249.4 to 369.9, with 961 new cases.


Information for the last four days, between Friday, October 30, and Tuesday, November 2, is not yet complete.

The second national lockdown is set begin on Thursday, November 5.
