MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:-

FIRST:- A DVLA Scam

Hi Jeff

This is the second time I have received this email.  I have deleted the it, as I know it to be a scam.

Regards

Richard

Thanks Richard – it follows the standard format

Not personally addressed - It is addressed to his email
Reason for email - It says Payment for Car Tax has failed
Inducement - He has 5 days to pay
Threat - If he fails – they will issue proceedings

Click on the LINK to complete payment details !!

NEXT:-  A delivery scam – with a difference:

Hi Jeff
Just another one to add to the list.

Kind regards

Yvonne

Yvonne forwarded a copy of an email sent to a large number of people, with the request to send it on to everyone you know.  It details a scam saying that you get e note through your door, to say they tried to deliver a parcel, but you were out, so please phone for an appointment for re-delivery.  The email goes on to say the call is to a premium rate number and you will be charged hundreds of pounds for the call.

This is a double scam !  There is no such thing as a premium account which will charge you that much.  These premium rate types of scare scams, have been circulating for years.  It is a form of cyber terrorism, to make us afraid, to raise our anxiety levels, to keep us in a continual state of apprehension and distrust of everything and everyone !

Anything which says – ‘send this onto everyone you know’ – should be binned immediately.

Can I also add – if you are forwarding warnings to large numbers of people – use the ‘bcc’ function in your email.  This sends the message to everyone listed, but hides all the email addresses, from everyone else, who receives it.  No-one, can see anyone else’s email address.  Some people, may not be happy with you sharing their email address with all and sundry, without their express consent – and – if the next person forwards the message to another group, that group are also visible to each other - and - all the email addresses in the original email are still visible !!

NEXT:- Another Council tax scam:

Hi Jeff,

Yet another phishing scam email ...

David

The message is not addressed personally
It details £155 Council Tax overpayment
He only has 3 days until 27/11 to claim
Or the money will be lost
Click on the link – which looks reasonable – until you hover your curser over the Link.  Then you can see it is not going to the same place !!!!

DON’T LET IT BE YOU – BIN IT

NEXT:  More feedback re the Post Office scam:

Hi Jeff
I also had the scam sent to my e-mail. It seems a rather amateurish affair. I was immediately suspicious because I wasn’t expecting any deliveries, but also the e-mail had no Post Office logo and on the line showing the sender.  Not only did it say Post Office, but also the e-mail address of ‘a.khalil’ !

Regards
Roy

Thanks Roy
