A hospital in Berkshire has been chosen as one of the places that will be involved in the coordination of the vaccine rollout next week.

Frimley Health NHS Trust is one of 53 hospitals and trusts that will be the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

The vaccine produced by Pfizer/BioNTech was approved by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on Wednesday, December 2 - the day the second lockdown ended.

The list of the 53 hospitals and trusts which will get the vaccine first was announced by Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Thursday. The list is featured on The Mirror.

Berkshire's main hospital, the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, was not included in the list.

People will be able to receive the vaccination from Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, which is part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust also runs Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley, Surrey and Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot.

Access to the vaccine will be prioritised to people aged over 80, care home staff and the vulnerable. The first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at hospitals from next week.

GP surgeries will then begin operating as vaccination centres in the coming weeks, with plans for 1,000 hubs across England.
